EXTRA SLIG TIME

This is kind of a fan character, ‘Stu’. An albino slig from the scrapped bonus game that would have followed an albino slig escaping the birthing pool before being killed because of his abnormalities. YEEEEEARS ago me and @scifer​ did a few concepts and ideas for what this game would have been like and hoped to make a mock-up of what the game would have been like. But this was before the inviable tides of work and moving took away our precious time to work on such a project. We got more time now, but we usually do our own stuff, but I do sometimes wonder if it be worth us going back to doing more art.

and I recently realized we never uploaded the last of what we did or the start of our opening animatic either. It featured sligs sending their beloved queen Skillya fan mail (mostly bout their new guns, beating up Mukodons and how they hope she’s proud).

...mail of which would go down a chute into an incinerator to keep her butt warm. I need to get off my arse and put the sound and stills together and upload what little we started because I still think it’s very funny and worth sharing.

At the Dentist's

Man, I don't even know how to start explaining this oddness... But I have been thinking for... um, maybe even for two years that Molluck does need to see a dentist due to his broken teeth. So, I brought him to a dentist, finally!

First, I did think of a kinda horror like thing but I didn't really wish such for Molluck, so I did 'bring' him to a nice dentist. I bet that there do are nice Vykker doctors too. And for some reason, it just came to my mind that maybe a nice Vykker dentist would have 'a comfort Fuzzle' to relieve the patient's stress (it doesn't react to loud noise). So yeah, that's the reason for that kinda random Fuzzle, never drawn them before either.

I just realized that Molluck needs sunglasses... Maybe he is shouting at the dentist to bring him sunglasses: 'Are ya tryin' to make me fully blind?!'. Well, this explains why he looks so angry...

And yeah, Chauffeur is just trying to sleep when he waits Molluck but also watches over him; that's why there's that gun. I know that his position can look wrong but I didn't feel like redrawing him and I'm not even sure if it's more like about showing what he is doing or that he is actually a part of that scene... I don't know how used he is to Molluck's shouting, like in a sense of being able to ignore it...

I kinda don't know about the background but I tried my best. I draw them so rarely... But I'm trying to learn to draw them. I also didn't wanna make it too detailed since this was supposed to be just a kinda simple sketch. But yeah, since I have drawn stuff like this so rarely, I gotta just start learning from something.

Man, my Molluck sketchbook has already kinda lost that 'story thing' since I have drawn what I have wanted but it only makes it look more like me! I draw some more story pages when I feel like it. The main thing is just that I draw Molluck stuff in it, that's the main idea.

I've got my fingers crossed for a reluctant team up that leads to a beautiful friendship. Below is the description I gave on Playerstate.

"Toby and the Chauffeur Slig exchanging hats and hanging out. I like the idea of Abe and Molluck having to reluctantly team up at some point, and then everyone would have to try and get along (aka not kill each other). Since Toby drives the train and the Chauffeur Slig flies the blimp, I imagine them teaching each other how to operate their respective modes of transportation. Then they would try on each others hats, because I think that would be cute."

Oddworld-tober Day 16: Fee

It’s a very cold day in Nolybab and Molluck is there on some sort of business and has given his wallet to his slig so he can the parking fee

I wasn’t sure how this one would turn out since I had to redraw it again and little bits of color were meant to be some sort of lighting and it made Molluck look like he’s flushed but I kind of like it since it makes him look sick, maybe that’s why he’s shivering in a heavy coat and why he looks so unhappy to be outside!

Molluck 'n' Slig Finnish Dub

It's been like two years since I did these dubs... I haven't still forgotten my project about dubbing all the Molluck having cutscenes in Finnish but this is only the second one so far... Well, gotta keep dubbing!

But yeah, this is a non-serious dub but I also altered some sentences to fit better into Finnish. So, here's the translation for the stuff I said:

Molluck:

FIN: "Kuinka tämä heikko, säälittävä, sivistymätön, orjan retale voi olla vieläkin hengissä?" ENG: 'How can this weak, pathetic, uneducated, schmuck of a slave still manage to be alive?'

'Schmuck of a slave' isn't easy to translate but I could figure out a good non-literal one.

Slig:

FIN: "En tiedä pomo, mutta se karmiva tyyppi on jotenkin yliluonnollinen, sen tiedän! En uskoisi sitä, jos en olisi nähnyt sitä omin silmin, kun parhaiden kavereideni mielet menivät jotenkin sekaisin ja he alkoivat ampua toisiaan. Pam pa-pa-PAM! Se oli järkyttävää. En tiedä pomo, mutta se kalja ei kai mene sillä päähän." ENG: 'I don't know boss, but that creepy dude is some kind of supernatural, I know it! I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it by my own eyes when my best friends went somehow insane and started to blow each other away. Pew pe-pe-PEW! It was disturbing. I don't know boss, but maybe that one doesn't get drunk on the beer.'

There ain't a good translation for 'brew' in Finnish, so the best one is 'beer'. Well, it also makes this less serious but there ain't literally any better translation... Another one is 'uutos' but it sounds somehow too sophisticated here since the style of Oddworld language is slang and rough ect. But if these were meant to official, that would probably be still used. Oh, and yeah, I was having fun with that translation here.

Molluck:

FIN: "Kalja oli meidän vakuutuksemme, takuumme siitä, ettei mitään tällaista koskaan tapahtuisi!" ENG: 'The beer was our insurance, our guarantee that would prevent anything like this from ever happening!'

Slig:

FIN: "Mutta se tapahtui. Kaljojen olisi pitänyt jo hoitaa tehtävänsä, ellei heillä ole sitä mukanaan. Miten selität sen?" ENG: 'But it did happen. The beer should have done its work already, unless they have it with them. How you explain it?'

I had to alter that one sentence since it does explain better the thing here but it also sounds better.

Molluck:

FIN: "Ehkä kaljamestarin suunnitelma olikin täyttä paskaa!" ENG: 'Maybe the Brewmaster's plans was bullshit!'

Frankly, this is my favourite line. (Y) But yes, this did sound better but I also think that it does suit Molluck, I can see him saying a thing like this. Also yes, I did translate the Brewmaster's name or 'the title'. I'm not sure if it should be seen more like as a title or his name but here, it's more like a title or a 'nickname', being a 'beermaster'.

I feel like I do need more practice with this stuff but I accept this dub I did last night. My throat didn't enjoy this... The Slig was the worst one... Doing Molluck voice doesn't hurt so much anymore but maybe it's so because I have started to get more used to it...

I could do some other languages too, though they do require a bit more work. It's been told me that I pronounce various languages well, so it wouldn't be a problem. I have studied five other (natural) languages than my mother tongue, more or less. (I mean, I'm also studying programming languages; I'm a computer scientist.) One language I have wondered to try out one day is Italian since it's kinda my fourth language and the game does offer the translations, so I don't need to translate anything by myself! Che sollievo! (= What a relief!)

I can understand why OWI didn't do more languages than English for the audio (referring to those old games that had those 'basic' languages dubbed too). But I can kinda 'fix' that thing! I'm not saying that what I do is good enough to be official, though I have heard bad dubs in video games, but yeah, I'm just doing these for fun!
